Currently at The Hayward, Antony Gormley is exhibiting Blind Light. The work of British sculptor Antony Gormley, his first major London showing,is on exhibition until 19th August 2007.
The exhibition features a series of brand new monumental works specially conceived for The Hayward's distinctive spaces, including one of the largest ever urban public art commissions, Event Horizon, which features sculptural casts of the artist’s body on rooftops and public walkways across central London, dramatically transforming the city skyline.
Life-sized naked statues are taking up vantage points across London in a display by the artist who created already some many famous pieces of sculptor art.
The 31 sculptures of Anthony Gormley will stand atop buildings and public walkways to highlight a show of his work, Blind Light at the Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, London from May until 19 August 2007. According to Antony Gormley, the project was in recognition of the vast numbers of people living in cities.
Field from 1991 is a sculpture by British artist Antony Gormley. It consists of approx. 35,000 individual terracotta figures, each between 8 and 26cm high, installed on the floor of a room facing the viewer. The figures were sculpted in Choluta, Mexico by about 60 members of a Texca family of brickmakers, under the supervision of the artist. The sculpture received a lot of media attention upon its first display, and many affectionate parodies.
